Q & A Section

Q: How hard is the motorcycle test ?

It's only hard if you are not prepared. Training is the only sure way to be ready.

Q: Do I have to do a CBT ?

Yes unless you have passed a motorcycle test in the past.

Q: How long does a CBT take

Usually it is completed in one day. But it is difficult to say because we go at your pace

Q: What is the maximum number of students on a CBT course

The DSA (Driving Standards Agency) stipulate the number of students who can be undergoing off road per instructor at 2 to 1. However an instructor is only allowed a maximum of 1 student on the road. Any more is illegal and you may find yourself uninsured.

Q: What will I need to bring when I take my CBT?

You will need to bring your driving licence and if you are to take the CBT on your own motorcycle, your insurance documents. You will need to bring clothing suitable for the weather conditions and finally remember to wear your spectacles or contact lenses if you need them.

Q: Will I need to buy full biking gear to take my CBT/lessons?

It is advisable to protect yourself as best as possible when riding a motorcycle. If you have no motorcycle clothing wear good substitutes.

(cont....) It is not advisable to wear training shoes as the give little protection. Wear a well padded, wind and waterproof jacket. We can provide waterproof trousers if they are needed. You must keep warm!

Q: I want to learn to ride but don't want to buy any equipment yet. Can I borrow a helmet ?

All of our courses include bike hire, insurance, fuel, helmet, and gloves in the price (see our prices page).

Q: I read about a training school that took a student out on a road ride during a CBT for 25 minutes. Is this sufficient to be safe ?

Even if you were the world's best motorcyclist , 25 minutes is against the law and rules set down by the DSA. Your CBT road ride must be a minimum of 2 hours regardless of your ability after 25 minutes.

Q: Where is the CBT carried out and how do I get there if I'm not allowed to ride my bike on the road?

The CBT site is situated at Port Soderick, just off the Old Castletown Road. For a small fee we can arrange a pick-up service for you and your bike if you are unable to arrange transport.

At ProRide Training we stick rigidly to the rules even if some others don't.
